Charity Contributions I have lost
too many people that I love to cancer and I want to help to eradicate this disease.
Cancer
I have chosen to support Cancer charities in honour of my uncle Jakov Carevic,
Josip Jelincic and my dear friend Lada Trogrlic (Dragicevic) who passed away at
the young age of 32, on my own 32nd birthday. I honour my friend Cindy Stewart,
a colon cancer survivor who is a living example of hope in conquering this disease.

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
I have chosen the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in memory of my uncle Ivo Bezmalinovic,
who was our miracle man. He fought his battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma for
16 years. I also honour Zdeslav Antonini, my young cousin who lost his fight at
the age of 17. The Leukemia
& Lymphoma Society®, headquartered in White Plains, NY, with 68 chapters
in the United States and Canada, is the world's largest voluntary health organization
dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient
services. The Society's mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's
disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
Since its founding in 1949, the Society has invested more than $550 million in
research specifically targeting leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. Last year alone,
the Society made 5.1 million contacts with patients, caregivers and healthcare
professionals.
Alzheimer's Society of BC
I have chosen the Alzheimer’s Society of BC in honour of my Nona (Grandmother)
Ruza Carevic, whose story I tell through Nona’s Story: Your Story,
and in memory of my Baka (Grandmother) Ana Sablic and great aunt Ljuba Taras.
Everyone has a story to share – please share yours.
The Alzheimer
Society of B.C. exists to alleviate the
personal and social consequences of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias,
to promote public awareness and to search for the causes and the cures. | | Breast
Cancer I have chosen Breast Cancer charities
in tribute to my aunt Marica Rukavina and in honour of my best friends, Sandy
and Tanya, who she left behind. I also dedicate this to Natalie Witkin, who is
bravely and whole-heartedly challenging this disease. She is an inspiration!
Your
donation to Breast Cancer
will also contribute to Willow consistantly being the 'best-in-class' among breast
cancer education and support organizations providing all Canadians impacted by
the disease with timely and relevant information, education and unique peer support.
This helps empower them to make better decisions,
support their loved ones more effectively and navigate the complex health care
system with greater confidence. A national program, Willow
is accessible via a toll-free line and delivers valuable psychosocial support
that is complementary to the care breast cancer patients receive from their medical
team.
Friends for Life Society
I've chosen this wonderful charity because they offer support to so many people
affected by Cancer and AIDS, who are trying to manage their health, their lives,
themselves. I dedicate it to everyone who is living with AIDS. The
Vancouver Friends For
Life Society serves as a catalyst to enhance the wellness of individuals living
with a life threatening illness by providing complementary and alternative health
and support services.
Children's
Charities I have chosen Childrens Charities
in honour of my cousin Tina Kuscevic who by virtue of how and where she was born,
has had to overcome many challenges, yet has grown up to be a lovely young woman.
It is my hope that all children receive the best education and medical attention
possible. |
